Finding The Right Coach in a Sea of Certifications…

Those who can't do teach. Maybe. What I find to be truer is that those who CAN do, teach way better.

If you have a therapist or a coach that is not living the life you want to have and exuding what you want to feel in your own life, you want to ask yourself - is this a person I want to learn from?

No one is perfect, but it is my experience that those who are walking the walk daily are evident by the fruits in their lives. So, if you want a relationship, work with someone who knows how to be in a healthy relationship and is....dare I say it....extremely satisfied?! If you want to change your relationship with food, work with someone who has traveled those roads and found peace with food and his/her body. If you want a successful career that includes a work/life balance, work with someone who has managed to create this in her or his own life.

Anyone can get a certification or degree if they do the work, but not everyone can produce fruit. That takes a different type of work. It takes courage.

If you are growing emotionally, your life will continue to evolve and expand in one direction or another. If you're stuck, you might be outgrowing your teacher. That is not a bad thing! Don't be afraid to let go of what is no longer a match for you. Set your sights on someone who has what you want and reach out to find out how you can have it too. This is how you find the coach you NEED to reach your goals.

When you meet with a potential coach or a therapist, ask how they do this work in their own life, and how it’s changed them. Look at their life. Is it something you want? What are you going through, and have they gone through something similar? You want someone you trust and that you believe in. Someone who has made it to the other side of fear and pain. Otherwise, they have no right to be teaching you anything, regardless of how certified or successful they may be.
